REFLECTIONS FROM
OUR HEAD GIRL:
MAYA SANGHERA
When I first joined Stratford Girls’ Grammar School, I was the only student from my
primary school and didn’t know anyone. Like many Year 7s, I was nervous about
moving up to “big school.” But from my very first day, I was struck by how warm and
welcoming the atmosphere was.
SGGS is more than just a place to study. It’s a community where you’re supported
to grow, not only academically but as a person. While the results speak for
themselves, this school has given me the space to make mistakes, build
confidence, and develop the skills I’ll need beyond the classroom.
There are countless opportunities to get involved, from clubs and competitions to
leadership roles. For me, joining Model United Nations and taking part in science
Olympiads pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow. As Head Girl,
I’ve seen how much value SGGS places on student voice. Roles like House
Captains, Subject Ambassadors, and the School Council help us all to step up,
contribute, and learn what leadership really means.
Student voice plays a vital role in life at SGGS. I am lucky enough to be
representing as Head Girl, but each student will have their own chance to
participate in key leadership roles, whether that be through House council, subject
ambassadors, student leadership team, or countless others opportunities. This
helps develop the fundamental soft skills required in preparation for their futures,
which I am certain will all be bright.
