SGGS Students Tackle Litter Problem
During School’s Enrichment Week
During the first week of July, a dedicated group of Year 8 students from
Stratford Girls’ Grammar took part in a community enrichment project to
help clean up the local environment. Supported by Claudine from the
charity Rubbish Friends, the students spent two afternoons litter picking as
part of the school’s Enrichment Week (1st–5th July), showing a
commendable commitment to their community.
On Tuesday 2nd July, 26 students collected an impressive 51 pounds of
rubbish from Shottery Fields, Alcester Road and Western Road – 39
pounds of which could have been recycled. On Thursday 4th July, another
group of 26 tackled Birmingham Road, gathering 61 pounds of litter, again
with 39 pounds recyclable.
A particularly problematic area was the footpath and bridge near Halfords.
This project not only cleaned up the local area but also raised awareness
about recycling and waste management. The school looks forward to
continuing this initiative, inspiring more students and the wider community
to help keep our town clean.
