SGGS Shines in Bar Mock
Trial Competition
On Saturday 23rd November, a team from SGGS proudly took part in the Bar Mock
Trial Competition, organised by the charity Young Citizens and hosted at the
University of Law in Birmingham. This national event gave students the chance to
step into the roles of barristers, witnesses, court clerks, and ushers, experiencing
the excitement and challenge of a real courtroom.
Competing against 12 schools from across the country, our team worked
collaboratively to present cases, question witnesses, and deliver opening and
closing statements. Their hard work paid off as they secured an impressive 2nd
place overall.
Madeleine, who took on the role of barrister, shared her reflections:
“The competition was an amazing experience that pushed us to think on our feet, craft strong
arguments, and work as a team under pressure. The atmosphere was inspiring, filled with
young people passionate about law. I’m so proud of how we performed and how we built
connections with students from other schools. This experience has strengthened my public
speaking skills and confirmed my ambition to pursue a career in law.”
The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop confidence, teamwork,
and an understanding of the legal profession.
