Mrs Formby, our school
Librarian, represents SGGS at
House of Commons Event
Mrs Formby to ok a trip to the Houses of Parliament to represent SGGS at a House of
Commons Event that fo cused on Libraries' Role in Literacy and S o cial Mobilit y.
In recognition of her contributions to
education, and following our library’s
nomination for the School Library
Award last year, Mrs. Formby was
invited to the House of Commons to
attend a high-profile event highlighting
the vital role of libraries in promoting
literacy, lifelong learning, and social
mobility across the UK. Hosted by
Laurence Turner MP as part of CILIP’s
Libraries Change Lives campaign, the
event celebrated the transformative
impact of libraries in schools,
communities, and even the prison
system.
Author John O’Farrell joined MPs,
library professionals, and advocates to
champion the importance of library
access for all. Mrs. Formby was invited
to emphasise the role of school
libraries in fostering literacy,
supporting digital education, and
providing a safe, supportive space for
students.
Reflecting on the experience, Mrs
Formby said:
“It was inspiring to hear MPs and authors
share how libraries shap ed their lives. I
sp oke with p eople running libraries in
scho ols, communities, and e ven prisonsand enjo yed af terno on tea on the
Parliamentar y Terrace with our lo cal MP,
Manuela Per teghella.”
Her invitation from the Schools
Library Association recognised our
library’s recent refurbishment and
award nomination. This event
underscored the urgent need to
preserve and strengthen library
services to support all learners and
communities.
Mrs. Formby’s attendance highlighted
her dedication to ensuring every
student has access to a welcoming
space to read, explore, and grow.
