In October last year, we were thrilled to welcome prize-winning poet Liz
Berry to Stratford Girls’ Grammar School for a day of creativity and
inspiration. The visit was made possible by Warwickshire Young Poet
Laureate, May Vaughan, whose First Prize win in the Canterbury Tales
Writing Competition for her poem Wisteria brought a certificate, monetary
award, and additional funding for our school library.
Liz worked with students across Year Groups, sparking imagination and
confidence. Year 13 explored the craft of poetry in depth:
“It’s what you put in as much as what you leave out,” she advised.
For Years 7 and 8, spoken word workshops encouraged students to
experiment with rhythm, voice, and performance to discover their own
authentic expression.
The day ended with students sharing their
wor k, a moving showcase of ta lent and
individua lity.
